Chemicals Found In Body Wash Known To Be Harmful

It may cause issues with skin or organ toxicity, immunotoxicity, and may even cause allergies in children. It can also create dioxin which can have many negative effects on the endocrine system.

 

Propylene Glycol

Propylene glycol is a form of antifreeze that is used in many skincare products and foods. It is FDA approved because they have found it to be safe to use in small quantities. However, this chemical can cause problems such as respiratory toxicity, skin and eye irritation, and immunotoxicity.

 

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate

This is commonly used as a foaming agent and can cause dry, itchy skin and tends to make it very irritant. This ingredient can cause eye damage and even disrupt estrogen hormones causing reproductive difficulties in both men and women. This foaming agent actually strips the skin of natural oils and causes it more damage and dryness than before.

 

Sodium Laureth Sulfate

This Sulfate is is similar to the Sodium Lauryl Sulfate except that the Laurly Sulfate has worse side effects than the Laureth Sulfate. Both are foaming agents and skin irritants. The Laureth Sulfate can be contaminated with a hormone disrupter that has been linked to breast cancer.

 

DMDM hydantoin

DMDM hydantoin is an antimicrobial formaldehyde releaser preservative that is another ingredient in shampoos, conditioners, body washes, and hair and skin products that can be harmful. DMDM can cause lung, skin, and eye irritations, and too much exposure can lead to formaldehyde allergy. This chemical is actually restricted from use in skin products in Japan.

Even certain types of fragrances can be harmful to your body. Read every label and if there are words that seem to long to pronounce, that’s a good sign of it being an unnatural and possibly harmful ingredient.
